Using Custody X Change Without a Co-Parent | Solo Use

Custody X Change helps you manage parenting even if your co-parent doesn't use it. In fact, about half of Custody X Change parents use it on their own. This flexibility isn't possible with most other co-parenting apps.

Why use Custody X Change solo?

Advantages of using Custody X Change by yourself include:

  • Organize your days
  • Store information about your kids digitally, not in your head
  • Document what happens
  • See what is or isn't working in your parenting arrangement
  • Get a leg up in negotiations and court

Many parents want space from their ex, including in their co-parenting app. Custody X Change helps you get organized and record what happens even if you're the only parent using it.

You may hope the other parent will join you on Custody X Change someday. Get a head start by using it by yourself. Your data will be there when the two of you are ready to link.

Know your custody schedule years in advance

See your custody schedule, including holidays, as far ahead as you need. Who will have the kids that weekend next month? What about Easter next year? Turn on exchange reminders so you're always on time, and share your calendar with others for free.

A calendar shows when each parent has custody in October, including over the Columbus Day weekend.Try this with Custody X Change.

Stay on top of your child's activities

In your activities calendar, see whether an extracurricular takes place during your custody time or the other parent's. Get reminders to your phone ahead of an activity. Let your kids and guests add and edit entries. View each child individually or all your kids at once, color-coded.

Record expenses so you get reimbursed

Record parenting expenses, with receipts, to make sure your co-parent pays you back. Custody X Change keeps a running total of how much they owe you. Filter by category, paid status and more to create reports you can give your co-parent or the court.

Track parenting time to solve disputes

Mark late and missed visits in the actual time tracker. You'll see the difference from your scheduled parenting time percentage. Then you'll be able to plan make-up time, convince your co-parent to do better, or get a new schedule (plus a new child support order).

Organize your child's information

Store your child's information in one place. Never forget your child's measurements, medications, school information and other important details. You won't have to worry about writing down unorganized notes that you might lose.

Document what happens in case you go to court

A parenting journal is where you'll document your interactions with the other parent, your child's behavior and more. Attach photos to support your case. Export an organized PDF or Word document as evidence.

Create a parenting plan

When you agree on a plan with the other parent, you can avoid court and save thousands of dollars. Make a proposal quickly with the Custody X Change parenting plan template. Hand your co-parent your thorough draft, and you'll be likely to get what you want for your child.

Frequently asked questions

Will I have access to the same features two co-parents would?

You'll have access to all the features except co-parent messaging.

If my co-parent signs up later, will they be able to link with me?

With both parents' consent, you can link accounts at any time. Then you'll get to exchange messages, collaborate on calendars, and more. Your co-parent can never view your journal, parenting plan or actual time calendar.

How can I convince my co-parent to sign up?

You might start off using Custody X Change on your own so you can report back. You can offer to pay for your co-parent's subscription (an option when you sign up for the Gold plan). You could also ask the court to require both parents to use Custody X Change.

How can a solo parent effectively use a co-parenting app?

Document everything — late pickups and missed visits, agreed one-time changes to your regular schedule, parenting expenses, how your child is adjusting to living in two homes, etc. Consider the app a living record of your co-parenting journey.
