Common Custody Schedules w/ Timeshare - Part Three

We're continuing to show examples of common custody and visitation schedules that people set up in their parenting plans. (See Part One and Part Two). Take some time to look through these schedules to see if one — or a combination of some — can fit your needs and work for you and your child.

Each parent's timeshare percentage is presented with each schedule so you can see the actual time you'd have with the children. Keep in mind, the timeshare percentage provided is for the basic repeating custody cycle, it does not account for holiday, vacation or special event time.

It's helpful for many parents to look at different ideas and then create a unique custody schedule that works for their parenting plan. This allows you to choose a calendar that works for the children and each parent.

Alternating extended weekends with one evening visit per week

Alternating extended weekends means the weekend goes through Monday (or can be started on Thursday night to include all of Friday). The non-custodial parent gets visitation every other weekend and one evening visit sometime during the week. A month of the schedule looks like this:

The length of the visit, of course, can be altered. This schedule is set up so the visit during the week is three hours. The weekend visits start on Friday night and go through until Monday evening. The timeshare percentage for the custodial parent is 76.8% and the timeshare percentage with the non-custodial parent is 23.2%.

With Custody X Change, you can experiment with different visitation times and lengths to see how that affects the timeshare percentage. For example, altering the above schedule to extend the evening visit for two hours, the timeshare for the non-custodial parent increases by more than a percent (24.8%). This may seem small, but it helps you to know that you're getting more time with your child.

Alternating extended weekends with an overnight visit during the week

In this schedule, the non-custodial parent gets visitation every other weekend (for an extended period of time) and one overnight visit during the week. The timeshare for the custodial parent is 63.6% and the timeshare for the non-custodial parent is 36.4%.The calendar looks like this:

1st, 3rd and 5th weekends

In the calendar below, the non-custodial parent has visitation on the 1st, 3rd and 5th weekends. The weekend consists of an overnight on Friday and Saturday and an end time Monday morning.

This is more of a sole custody arrangement with visitation for the other parent. The custodial parent has 79% of the time and the non-custodial parent has 21%. You could modify this to extend the weekends. If the visits are extended until 5 p.m. on Monday, the timeshare changes to 76.4% for the custodial parent and 23.6% for the non-custodial parent.
