The every weekend with school time removed schedule is a one week rotating schedule which allows for 50/50 physical custody. Visitation is considered 50/50 because time at school is not counted toward either parent.

This is a visual calendar of the every weekend with school time removed schedule made on the Custody X Change software. Time with the mother is represented in pink and the father blue.

This schedule can work very well if you and the other parent live further away but still want to maintain 50/50 physical custody. It also is great if one of the parents has an unique schedule, works weekends, or travels frequently. The schedule also has minimal exchanges and makes it possible to not interact with the other parent if the child is picked up or dropped off at school.

The biggest concern with this schedule is one parent has the child every weekend. This schedule can be more restrictive and is not common unless it works with your lifestyle. Time changes or being flexible can be harder to implement.

Pros:

• Allows parents to live further apart and maintain 50/50 physical custody.
• Great for parents who travel a lot or have unique work schedules.
• Minimal exchanges.

Cons:

• One parent has the child every weekend.
• Can be a more restrictive schedule and is best with a certain lifestyle.

This schedule is hard to make variations to without it becoming one of the other schedules or changing the time percentages with each parent.

Here is a small variation where the weekend parent also has one weeknight with the child.

Creating an every weekend schedule using Custody X Change is very simple.

First, download and install the free trial.

Next, click on the first tab, "Regular Schedule" and you will see a calendar. To the right of the calendar is a menu of all the different custody schedules or the ability to create your own. Under the 50/50 title, select Every weekend.

The calendar will automatically fill out for you. You can now make any needed changes. Watch the video tutorial for additional information on creating a custody schedule.

No schedule is ever completely locked in and final. You always have the option to go back to the courts and change it. Just make sure the schedule you submit to the court will work for you, your child, and the other parent for at least one year. It is often hard to change it before that time period.

There also is the option to have a temporary schedule until a certain time or event. For example: you have a job working weekends until you finish school in six months. Your plans to find a job in your industry will require a different schedule. In this situation, you could have a temporary schedule of every weekend with school time removed and upon getting a new job, change to a better pre-determined schedule.

Each situation is different. You need to do the best you can to make it work for everyone involved, especially your child. There is no black and white answer when child custody & visitation is involved. Keep an open mind to all the options available to you.
