What is Custody X Change?

Hi! My name's Ben Coltrin. Let me tell you how this software came about. My best friend's father-in-law (a family law attorney) wanted some software written for his practice. He wanted software that would help him win more time for his clients. As it stood, there was no efficient method for calculating timeshare percentages / overnight percentages / hourly percentages.

Why does any of that matter?

Well, timeshare is the amount of time a parent has with their children.

And in addition to that, he wanted software that would accurately and exactly compute the timeshare percentage, down to the minute. And if you're curious why that matters - well, that number feeds directly into child support calculations.

(***Note: Depending on your jurisdiction, "timeshare percentage" might not be what is used to calculate child support. It is the most common method in the world, but various states / countries use other methods. For example, in the US, Florida uses the percentage of overnight visits - which is the same method used in Australia. Other places use an actual number of hours, instead of a percentage of time. The good news is this software calculates each of those numbers, and you can switch with a click of a button. End of note.***)

So having an exact percentage (and a document to prove it) meant he could save each of his clients thousands in child support!

The thing is, there was no other way to get an accurate and exact timeshare percentage (and Custody X Change is still the only software that computes these numbers). If an attorney absolutely needed a number, because it was a high-profile celebrity case or some millionaire, where hundreds of thousands of dollars was on the line, and each percentage point meant tens of thousands of dollars every months...

Well, in this case an attorney could spend five or so hours in Excel and add up all the hours manually.

Oh, and guess what the kicker is?

If the plan needed to be changed, even ever so slightly, most of that Excel work is completely wasted...

Of course, all that seems pretty impractical, especially if you're not a millionaire or a celebrity, but just a Joe or Mary Schmoe and you can't afford to pay an attorney five hours times $300/hour ($1500) just to fiddle with Excel.

Good news? With Custody X Change you don't have to.

So like I said, the software was originally designed for family law attorneys to use in their practice. But after that was all finished, I thought, "Wow. Attorneys are using this software (and charging their clients for it), why not create a version that's available for parents, too?"

So that's what I did. Custody X Change is now available to parents, in addition to attorneys. I lowered the price for parents to make it more affordable, and now anyone who's actually serious about winning their custody battle can have a fighting chance.

"Had my court today. Was up till 11pm last night working out the details of shared parenting plan with my soon to be x-wife. Before last night she has been saying her lawyer was going for my only having my daughter one night a week and every other weekend. After talking about daycare and times we worked out a plan.
